Ministerial Formation
& Priestly Life: $1,300,000 - 21%
The Diocese of Trenton has the 4th largest diaconate in the United States. We have 300 active deacons, 42 retired deacons (many of whom remain active at their parishes), and 60 in our 4 year training and formation program.
Our deacons proclaim the Gospel, preach, and teach in the name of the Church. Deacons baptize, lead the faithful in prayer, witness marriages, and conduct wake and funeral services. As you can see above, our deacons can be found visiting the sick and homebound, prisoners, advocating for the poor, and performing in a wide variety of similar ministries.
The vast majority of deacons are married with families and work in secular jobs. As you can imagine, it takes a committed marriage and family to support and share in the work of a deacon. We are thankful and feel blessed to have so many serving in our midst.

Education: $1,300,000 - 21%
Students from The College of New Jersey’s Campus Ministry program, as seen on the left, tutor children in the city of Trenton. These young Catholics show us that service is at the heart of Catholic Campus Ministry. Their spiritual well being, as well as every Catholic student who attends Princeton, Rider, Monmouth, and Georgian Court Universities is one of the most important aspects funded by the Bishop’s Annual Appeal.
From celebrating Mass, to alternative spring breaks,
to weekly social gatherings, our diocese is committed
to building a strong Catholic faith community for our
students. Support them with your gift.
Parish Needs: $900,000 - 14%
It is good to share. And the Diocese of Trenton’s Bishop’s Annual Appeal has one of the most generous parish
rebate programs in the country. Since the appeal began, about 14 million dollars has been returned to our parishes. Over the years parishes have used these funds to help charitable ministries like the St. Vincent DePaul Society, parish youth programs, and faith formation programs. St. John’s in Allentown, shown above, is using their parish rebate to help build a chapel and create much needed office space.
Charitable Missions: $700,000 - 11%
The Diocese of Trenton’s Catholic Charities is the largest social service agency serving our four county area. For over
100 years, our Catholic Charities has directly helped alleviate
the suffering of tens of thousands of people. Focused on building up the person, we offer computer training, ESL, parenting training, gang violence prevention, adult education for GEDs, as well as substance abuse counseling, anger management, and maternity and pregnancy care.
Catholic Charities gives us a vision of a better world, and
it is a sign of the profound impact we can make on
society. By supporting the appeal you offer an
invaluable service—the opportunity for hurting people
to rebuild their lives.
Evangelization, Communications & Outreach: $2,100,00 - 33%
These days information is everywhere, especially online.
For our diocese to thrive, we need to be able to touch as many people as we can with the Gospel message of Christ. Our diocese is leading the way by expanding our outreach to call men to vocations through godiscallingyou.com, proclaiming the message of life at respectlifetoday.com, making our youth
television program available at realfaithtv.com, and welcoming our Latino Catholics at ahtrenton.com. Web communications is a way of life especially for our young Catholics, and it’s here to stay. It is an investment, but the tens of thousands of web visitors we’ve attracted show it is a wise one.
